A different tour and different mission
BALAD, Iraq --
Sgt. Michael Zarth of Hammond is a truck commander on his second tour of duty with the Indiana National Guard, part of a convoy squad providing security for tractor-trailers hauling supplies to and from U.S. bases in Iraq.
Back in 2003, during his first tour, he was a medic attached to the 205th out of Camp Attebury and was stationed in Kuwait and Southern Iraq.
A lot of things have changed in Iraq since 2003.
"We were doing ground evacuations then," Zarth said. "They don't really use them anymore. The IED threat wasn't big back then."
Read more about Sgt. Zarth's experiences on his second tour.
